The Role

Edway Labour Hire is continuously looking for Bricklayer for our clients and we currently have several positions available in NSW and VIC. As a skilled Bricklayer, you will cut and prepare bricks, lay out patterns and foundations, mix and spread mortar, and lay the bricks. You will make sure that structures are level, clean excess mortar with trowels, and clean and polish all new surfaces.

 Some of the key responsibilities include: 

  • Study plans and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions and installation procedure
  • Measuring distance from reference points and mark guidelines on working surface to lay out work
  • Repair and maintain bricks, cement blocks and related structures
  • Clean work area and ensure that any debris or hazardous material is cleared away
  • Measure work area and calculate how many bricks will be needed for the first row
  • Ensure that there is enough material available to put in layers of bricks
  • Make sure that sufficient bricks are available at all times and order more bricks for subsequent work days
  • Mix cement using hands or mixing tools depending on the amount of cement
  • Ensure that bricks are laid in a symmetrical manner and that cement is applied properly to hold them together
  • Manage excess cement to lessen wastage
  • Shape and trim bricks to make sure that they fit in properly in places such as corners

General Requirements:

  • Years of Experience: 1-2 years of relevant practical professional experience
  • Education: At least a certificate level of Education
  • communication skills that allow you to inform, help and advice customers clearly Comprehensive knowledge of masonry safety practices
  • creative thinking, to be able to come up with new ideas to improve customer service standards
  • an ability to work well under pressure
